UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against French club Saint Etienne due to the behaviour of their fans during the hammering against Manchester United in the Europa League yesterday.

The supporters are accused of setting off smoke bombs and fireworks during the game, which could be seen as a cloud of smoke emerged from the away section at Old Trafford.

There are further accusations against the French club’s supporters, as they are also being investigated for object throwing and improper conduct.

Unfortunately for them, there were no explosions of quality from their players on the pitch as Manchester United tore them apart in the first leg of their round of 32 Europa League tie.

However, a UEFA panel will not meet to deal with the case until 23rd March.

United travel to France for the second leg on Wednesday 22nd February with virtually both feet in the next round of the competition.
